You’ll love the warmth and variety of Indian restaurants in this south Texas city. Whether you’re craving a good Butter Chicken or want to brave a new cuisine, I have some ideas for you. Check out my list of the best Indian restaurants in San Antonio below!

    India Oven

    1031 Patricia #106, San Antonio, TX 78213Phone: 210-366-1030Visit Website

Located near the intersection of Blanco Road and West Avenue, you’ll find Indian Oven on Patricia.

This is a family-run restaurant that recently had to expand their dining room, so you know they’re popular!

Enjoy their lunch buffet or nightly candlelit dinner. The setting feels formal, and you’ll be catered to, but you can wear jeans and just walk in.

The food has an excellent mix of spicy and non-spicy dishes to suit all tastes. There are a variety of westernized and traditional North Indian dishes and drinks on the menu. You get a free appetizer on the table of papad, chutneys, and dips.

For some of the best Indian food in San Antonio, order the traditional vegetarian dish of Baingan Bartha.

Madurai Mes – Authentic Indian Cuisine

5152 Fredericksburg Rd, San Antonio, TX 78229Phone: 210-524-8161Visit Website

Next on my list of the best Indian restaurants in San Antonio is Madurai Mes on Fredericksburg between Callaghan Road and Magic Drive.

The unassuming storefront is on the second level in a shopping center. Inside, the restaurant is very simple, but you’ll forget about that quickly! The staff is friendly, and the food is delicious.

This is where local Indian immigrants come when they miss food from home. On the menu, you’ll find a variety of Indo-Asian dishes, South Indian dishes, and North Indian dishes. I suggest ordering a Thali.

You’re in for a treat with this genuine Indian-style presentation. And you must save room for a Jigarthanda at Madurai Mes! They’re open every day but Tuesdays.

    Spice Fine Indian Cuisine

3720 Northwest Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78229Phone: 210-253-9658Visit Website

Just inside the Loop on the 410 Access Road and Fredericksburg Road is Spice. Come here or to the location in Austin.

The red logo tells me that they strive to create a meaningful brand. This is the kind of place where you come to try Indian food for the first time and keep coming back! There’s a spice rating from 1 to 5, and 5-level spice is no joke.

I would order a classic like Butter Chicken and garlic naan. Just be prepared, because it’s garlicky! If you’re an Indian food veteran, go with the egg biryani or goat korma.

Monday through Friday, they are open for lunch, close from 2:30 to 5, and then open for dinner. On the weekends, they’re open from 9:30 am to 11:30 pm.

    Biryani Pot

9386 Huebner Rd, San Antonio, TX 78240Phone: 210-561-8874Visit Website

If you’re looking for Hyderabadi Indian restaurants in San Antonio, visit Biryani Pot. It’s located in the Huebner Square Shopping Center off Huebner Road and Floyd Curl Drive.

San Antonio is just one of 13 locations across the United States. Come here, and you’ll see why. Everything is authentically Indo-Asian and includes a variety of vegan, vegetarian, and meat dishes.

Just make sure you’re prepared for the authentic spice of Indian food. Even the mild has a serious kick to it!

For the best experience, order the crispy masala peppercorn starter and try the mango lassi. Order the restaurant’s namesake, Hyderabadi Vegetarian Dum Biryani.

    India Taj Palace

20323 Huebner Rd, San Antonio, TX 78258Phone: 210-497-4800Visit Website

Head to Stone Oak north of 1604 for India Taj Palace. Turn onto Stone Hue from Huebner, and they’re tucked into the Stone Hue Shopping Center.

At this stop on my list of the best Indian restaurants in San Antonio, you can find classic North Indian fare in a cozy, beautiful setting. Enjoy Bollywood movies while you eat!

I loved the saag paneer and chicken tikka masala. A lot of people come here for the lunch and dinner buffets.

If you’re trying Indian food for the first time, go with the buffet to get a feel for everything. It’s not spicy at all, unlike some Indian food places.

    Tarka Indian Kitchen

    427 TX-1604 Loop Ste 101, San Antonio, TX 78232Phone: 210-499-0982Visit Website

Find Tarka Indian Kitchen off 1604 and Sonterra Place, across the parking lot from Trader Joe’s. Since opening their original location in Austin in 2009, they’ve become increasingly popular, opening locations all over Texas. Today, it’s a great place to get Indian food in a contemporary fast-food setting.

Relax on the patio and enjoy a glass of wine, beer, or a lassi. The vegetable samosas are delicious, and the mango lemonade is a crowd favorite.

For the true Tarka experience, I recommend ordering one of their kabob plates. Just keep in mind that this is an American take on Indian food, but that’s perfectly fine!

    Simi’s India Cuisine

    4535 Fredericksburg Rd #109, San Antonio, TX 78201Phone: 210-737-3166

For more of the best Indian food in San Antonio, go to Simi’s Indian Cuisine inside Loop 410. Find them in the North Point Shopping Center on Fredericksburg Road behind Wonderland Mall. A family-owned restaurant, they’ve been serving San Antonio since the 90s!

Enjoy a clean and colorful dining hall with place settings and folded napkins. Simi’s has a cozy, casual atmosphere with Indian music playing in the background.

The buffet is excellent here when it’s available. I highly recommend getting a thali if it’s not, and the chia is delicious.

    Tandoor Palace Indian Restaurant

8783 Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78240Phone: 210-592-1211Visit Website

Tandoor Palace is on Wurzbach and Gardendale, next to the 4th Quarter Sports Bar. Enjoy rooms with lots of light and Indian tapestries and drawings on the walls.

The buffet is always full, and the staff is friendly! They go easy on the spices at Tandoor Palace, but it doesn’t compromise the quality of authenticity of this place.

At this hidden gem, you’ll find a variety of pleasant surprises. They give you baskets of fresh, hot naan when you sit down. It’s delicious! The tea will impress even the biggest tea critic, and I’d say they do seafood better than anything else. Try their shrimp biryani or the fish masala.

    Taste Of India

5999 De Zavala Rd, San Antonio, TX 78249Phone: 210-561-4409Visit Website

Head down De Zavala Road, and you’ll find Taste of India across Cogburn Street from the Post Office.

This unassuming stop can be easy to miss in the shopping center, but make a point to walk in. They’re open for lunch from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm every day but Saturday, and open for dinner every day from 5 to 9 pm.

Taste of India makes my list of best Indian restaurants in San Antonio for their northern Indian cuisine.

Enjoy an Indian beer and dishes served in ornate bowls. If you’re into spicy food, I highly recommend the lamb vindaloo and rice pudding for dessert!

    The Lion Indian Cuisine

    8202 N Loop 1604 W, San Antonio, TX 78249Phone: 210-257-6770Visit Website

You’ll find The Lion Indian Cuisine on the Northwest Side. It’s just inside Loop 1604 in the Hausman Village Shopping Center.

Walk inside to calming blue walls and minimal decor, except for the lion painted on the wall! There’s a full bar with a bar food menu and flat screens to watch sports games on.

Their lunch buffet is available from 11 am to 2:30 pm, then they reopen from 5 pm to 9:30 pm with a dinner menu.

At The Lion Indian Cuisine, they serve very authentic dishes but strive to meet the tastes of all their patrons. Choose from vegan and non-vegan dishes.

I suggest going with a friend and ordering the Pride (For Two). It comes with so much food; you’ll be eating leftovers for days!

    Final Thoughts

When it comes to the best Indian restaurants in San Antonio, you’ll find styles for every taste.

If you’re looking for the most authentic regional dishes, head to Biryani Pot. For American Indian favorites, there’s Spice. There’s something for everyone!

If you’ve enjoyed my picks for San Antonio Indian spots, you’ll love my choices of breweries too!
