Remember at school when the local teenage sexpert told you that guys who ate pineapple had fruity juices of their own?
They probably also told you that eating pineapple would also have a similar effect on your vagina.
How to support survivors of violence and sexual abuse during triggering news cycles
After all, God forbid a vagina that smells and tastes like…a vagina.
Imagine the horror when faced with your first cunnilingus experience and the dude looks at your nether regions, expecting a pina colada, only to find that it just smells a bit moist.
So you sat there, chowing down pineapple chunks like no tomorrow.
But did it make a difference?
There’s no scientific evidence to suggest that pineapple affects how your vagina smells or tastes.
But that doesn’t mean that it definitely has no effect.
When someone put the question to Reddit, plenty of folk started getting involved, including biochemists.
‘Biochemist chiming in: pretty much that statement “you are what you eat” rings true,’ writes user beermeupscotty (seems legit…).
‘You can change your “taste” with your diet. If you drink lots of coffee and beer, your juices will have a bitter taste. As a general tip, drink lots of water and add fruit to your diet for better tasting “juices”.’
Dr Shazia Malik, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, told familycuisine.net: ‘There is no scientific evidence that (pineapple changes a vagina’s smell or taste) – but there’s lots of anecdotal stuff from women that it can affect smell and taste.’
‘However, I would say all things in moderation – and remember that too much sugar can give you thrush…which doesn’t feel or smell too great.’
So if you do, for whatever reason, want your vagina to smell like fruit, it might not be a completely ridiculous idea to up your fruit consumption – but don’t over do it.
As for guys, you’d need to be eating the stuff well ahead of time as prostate fluid in ejaculation is made weeks or months before getting balls deep.
To be in with a chance of making semen delicious, you’ve got to be consuming sweet fruits well ahead of time and over a continuous period.
Simply eating a pineapple smoothie before a date isn’t going to stop your juices tasting like death.
But as there’s no actual scientific evidence, either way, be prepared to chalk all this up to urban legend.
Your vagina smells just fine as it is. And if it doesn’t, a trip to the gyno will probably be more effective than mainlining fruit salads.
