How many pints in a gallon of ice cream

Most times when Instant Pot chefs see the word pint, we immediately picture ice cream or sour recipes, but pints can be incorporated into almost any dish, and this is where learning how many pints in a gallon will come in handy.

There are 8 pints in 1 gallon, which means that there are 16 cups or 128 fluid ounces in 1 gallon. Recipes such as our Homemade Hot Chocolate, for example, uses 1 gallon of milk or 8 pints of milk to prepare 16 servings of Hot Chocolate.

Pint and gallon measurements are used for large quantity meals, such as feeding families or entertaining large gatherings, but you can stretch any recipe to a gallon to make a 16 or more serving size.

For example, our Instant Pot Pinto Beans with Ham Hocks uses 2 cups water- or 1 pint- and 3 cups of chicken broth- or 1 1/2 pint of broth.

This recipe can be easily converted to a gallon by taking the recipe and multiplying it 4x, which will yield approximately 40 or more servings!

How to measure pints in a gallon

There are several ways you can measure pints in a gallon, but first, we have to mention that pints do not exist in dry measuring.

Why? Because pints are based on liquid fluid ounces and dry measuring does not measure liquid.

With that stated, one of the best ways that you can measure pints is with a glass measuring cup such as Pyrex or OXO. Both brands have the ounce and cup measurements, so once you reach 16oz then you know that you have a pint.

If you don’t have glass measuring cups, no worry! You can use a regular 16 oz drinking glass- or wine glass as a measuring tool.

Have a large coffee mug? This can be used too! If you have a standard-size coffee mug then you only need to fill it 3/4 of the way and fill it completely if using a 15 or 16 oz coffee mug.

Same for large and small wine glasses.

As a last resort, you can use a medium-size mason jar, as most medium-sized mason jars are between 16-20 oz.

Oats are known to spread once they began to cook and while inside the pressure process, you can’t tell if there’s too much or too little liquid.

Too much liquid may cause the oats to boil over and sip onto the counter-yuck! Too little may result in a very dry, yet undercooked oatmeal that you won’t want to serve to anyone.

These scenarios can happen should you opt for using dry measuring cups as opposed to liquid or not measure out your liquid in its entirety.
