Video How To Dry Magic Mushrooms Using Dehydrators

The thing about freshly harvested psychedelic mushrooms is they typically don’t stay fresh for long. That’s why you barely see ready-to-consume packages of these products that haven’t been dried out.

A bag of high quality dried magic mushrooms usually contain stems and caps seeped of every last bit of moisture for the purpose of stretching their shelf life. Once harvested, it’ll be a race against time to get your magic shrooms dry. To help you out, let’s discuss how to perform the process correctly.

The Importance of Drying Your Psychedelic Shrooms

If you’ve only just been introduced to the realm of magic shrooms, their parched, slightly crispy appearance might surprise you. With the love and care you provide magic shrooms, you might be wondering why it’s so necessary to dry them out the moment after they’re harvested. The truth of the matter is that such a state has a purpose.

These mushrooms are dried out so that they maintain the look and potency of their freshly-picked versions to an extent. In other words, drying them out instead of keeping them fresh helps preserve the structure and function of the shrooms for a lot longer.

Mushrooms tend to hold considerable moisture, which contributes to the decomposition process. Given that more than 85 percent of this plantlike fungus is made of water, you can imagine why it has to be rid of it as soon as possible to remain good. Additionally, you’ll need to dry every single one correctly; otherwise, it would spell chaos for the entire batch.

There is an emphasis on the word “proper” when drying, as any bit of moisture left in even one shroom could end up affecting the entire group. Left-behind moisture also results in a poor, unappealing look. Keep in mind that these shrooms should end up looking bright and golden once dry. If your dried-out cluster doesn’t look like that but takes on a dark or bluish color instead, you’ve likely done a bad job of drying.

    Drying Magic Shrooms Correctly

    Drying Magic Shrooms Correctly

Since drying is vital in the world of magic mushrooms, it’s safe to say there’s more than one correct way to do it. We’ll be going over some of these methods to find the best one for your current circumstances.

Regardless of what tools you have or don’t have at the ready, shroom drying should always begin with cleaning the stem bottoms. That would mean removing the bottom sections of the fungus that still contain substrate, as this does not factor in the drying process.

    Drying Mushrooms Using a Dehydrator

To dry mushrooms, you’ll need to secure a dehydrator. While you can certainly dry magic shrooms in the absence of this device, it does make the process more convenient. With a dehydrator in hand, follow these steps:

Step 1: Arrange the mushrooms so that the smallest ones are on the bottom ring tray and the largest are on the top.

Step 2: If you’re working with a dehydrator without a timer, make sure to set the temperature to at least 110 but no more than 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 3: Set the built-in timer or separate alarm for 120 minutes.

Step 4: Once the timer goes off, inspect the trays and remove the shrooms. You will know they are good to go once they’ve obtained that parched, semi-crispy look you can easily snap with the gentlest twist.

Drying Mushrooms Using a Vertical Dehydrator

So, what’s the difference if you’re using this contraption?

Step 1: Using a vertical dehydrator, you have to position the smaller mushrooms farthest from the fan and the largest ones nearest it.

Step 2: Set the temperature a little bit higher than you would using a regular dehydrator. Set it close to 160 degrees Fahrenheit for two hours.

Step 3: If the mushrooms haven’t yet attained that crispy look once the timer’s up, have them go for a little bit longer.

Both these dehydrators do an excellent job of drying mushrooms, but they are not the be-all and end-all of the process. In fact, depending on how you want to go about your journey, there are alternative methods that could prove just as effective. A little research is the key to finding out what works best for your needs.

How Long Do Shrooms Take To Dry

That cracker-dry appearance you want in your shrooms has less to do with the time and more to do with the look and feel of the mushrooms once the timer’s up. Remember, you could dehydrate these shrooms for two hours, and they might still not achieve that parched effect ideal for selling. Only when they take a beautiful golden color and crispy texture will you know you got the timing right.

    Dehydrators Aren’t Your Only Options

While arguably more tedious than using convenient dehydrators, other drying alternatives can do a great job of draining moisture from magic shrooms when done correctly. Do a little web search and discover other effective ways for going about the mushroom-drying business. We’re confident you’ll find the method for you sooner rather than later.
