If you’re wondering how to make buffalo sauce, I have got you covered. Buffalo Sauce is basically a fancier version of hot sauce, jazzed up with melted butter. It’s very easy, and perfect on just about anything!
I love putting it on top of tacos, avocado toast, basically anything I want to add a flavorful kick to!
My daughter loves the flavor of buffalo sauce just as much as I do. We toss it with chicken wings and of course add it to our favorite Buffalo Chicken Dip. We sometimes mix it with a bit of blue cheese (or homemade ranch) dressing or sour cream to keep the buffalo sauce flavor and cut the spice a bit!
What is Buffalo Sauce?
Yes, there is a difference between buffalo sauce and hot sauce. Hot sauce is basically just hot peppers, salt, and vinegar. Add some whisked melted butter to your hot sauce, and you have created buffalo sauce.
Buffalo sauce is smoother than hot sauce, and I find it to have a way richer flavor. The butter creates a spicy and silky sauce that tastes restaurant quality, but at home!
Fun fact: if you buy buffalo sauce at the store, it is usually made with oil. Homemade (and often restaurant made) it is made with melted butter. That’s why it tastes so darn good!
How To Make Buffalo Sauce
This simple buffalo sauce recipe starts with a base of your favorite hot sauce (I love using Frank’s Red Hot).
Basically all you need to do is whisk 2 parts hot sauce to one part melted butter (or oil in a pinch). What sauce is easier than that?
Toss your favorite wings in this spicy favorite, or use it to dip your veggies, fries, burgers, you name it! When stored in an airtight jar or container should last several weeks in your fridge.
