Mango juice! Like the World’s best mango market in a glass! Full of refreshing fruity flavors, little tangy & sweet, this homemade truly tropical mango juice is the best you can make this summer! If you have never had homemade mango juice made from real fresh mangoes, you are in for a real treat! Though in a pinch frozen or mango pulp works, fresh mangoes are the best and taste delicious if harvested during the peak season.

Making mango juice at home is no rocket science. Yet I thought of making this post just to share my tips. For years I had made this juice in a blender by adding chopped mangoes, chilled water, ice cubes and sugar. 5 years ago when we started juicing vegetable and fruits regularly at home then I began to experiment a lot even with mangoes.

Finally found that they can be great for cleansing the body. I felt regular consumption of mango juice can do wonders to your body especially for the digestion.

This mango juice is slightly sweet, slightly tangy, and so perfect for helping you quench the thirst on hot summer days. Serve it anytime of the day and you will love it. This recipe is kids & toddlers’ friendly just avoid the optional ingredients mentioned in the recipe.

While you can always use only mangoes to make the juice, I think adding a few other ingredients makes it really special!

Mango is a pulpy fruit which requires more liquids when blended to juice. Plain water adds no nutrition or flavor to the juice. Without any liquid it turns to a smoothie texture. So here are some options for the liquid.

Liquid: Coconut water, orange juice or lemon juice not only add more nutrition to your drink, will neutralize the heating properties of the mangoes and also helps your mango pulp thin down to a juice consistency. These ingredients won’t alter the flavor of your mango juice. So decide on what you want to use. If you do not have any of these simply use plain water.

Tender coconut water is nature’s best thirst quenching and rehydrating drink available to us. My mom would always add some tender coconut water to the blender while making mango juice. Since mangoes are heaty in nature, coconut water brings down the heat.

Sometimes I also use oranges. Mangoes and oranges go well together and kids will love this combo a lot. If you are making the juice in a blender, then peel the oranges and halve them. Remove the seeds and blend them. Strain this and extract the juice.

Pour back to the jar. Then add chopped mangoes and blend. Alternately you may want to juice the oranges in a manual orange juicer and use it here.

Sabja seeds or chia seeds: Adding some soaked sabja seeds or chia seeds to your juice is a great idea.

Spice & herbs: Fresh mint leaves and ginger add flavor but use them only if you like their flavours. I skip them whenever I make this for my kids as they don’t like both.

We all have different tastes and choices. What I have shared above is my way of making mango juice. However you may use what you like for the liquid.

    How to make mango juice

    1. Choose fully ripe sweet mangoes. I have used alphonso mangoes here. You can also use semi-ripe mangoes but they will be tart so you will need to add more sweetener. Rinse them well under running water.

    2. Peel the mangoes and chop them. The other way is to just halve them.

    3. Cut the inner flesh into cubes with a knife, without cutting through the skin of the mango.

    4. Then use a slightly large spoon to detach the flesh from the skin and scoop out the cubes.

    5. Add them to a blender jar along with 2 to 3 tbsps sugar or honey. If you want you can also add ginger and mint leaves. I have not added here.

    6. Add some ice cubes or cold water or orange juice or coconut water. I used about 1 cup orange juice here.

    7. Blend until smooth. For a thinner juice like consistency you may need to add more liquid. I added another half cup water at this stage.

    8. I had some soaked sabja seeds, added them here to the serving glasses. If you want to know more about these seeds you may check this sabja seeds post.

Pour mango juice to serving glasses. This is the consistency we want, pouring consistency yet thick.

If you want you can add more ice cubes but the flavors will be diluted.

    Pro tips

If you love the real pure mango flavor then avoid using any other ingredient. Just blend the mangoes with water until you get a real smooth consistency. You may add your favorite sweetener too.

To make it something different from the usual mango juice, you may add some orange juice. The combo of mango and orange is great.

For healthier option and to add more nutrition you may add some tender coconut water and bits of tender coconut too.
