This copycat Outback blooming recipe is a LIGHTER VERSION of the FAMOUS dipping sauce from the famous steak house.
When you go, you have to order the Blooming Onion appetizer. I will admit that when we ate there I also dipped my steak and chicken in the sauce.
Now that I’m sharing, let’s get real. I just dipped my fingers in it or ate it with a spoon.
Which is why I always made sure to order extra sauce on the side. If there was any left, I would take it home for later.
Now you don’t have to leave the comfort of your home and you can dip however you like. No one watching!!

What is blooming onion sauce made of?
Just like your other delicious, creamy, and addicting dips, it starts with mayo.
I have added sour cream in place of some of the mayo, but you can also use plain yogurt.
After that, it’s all about the horseradish for tanginess and the spices for that kick at the end.
Blooming Onion Dipping Sauce Ingredients
- Mayo
- Ketchup
- Sour Cream (you can use yogurt)
- Horseradish
- Herbs & Spices (not a secret anymore!)

Pretty easy right? Now get to mixing and dipping!
Do you eat onion rings with ketchup?
I am not a huge fan of ketchup but added to other sauces like this one, I would dunk my onion rings in it!
How long does it last?
If stored in the fridge in an air tight container, this sauce will keep for up to a week. But, in my house, it never makes it more than 24 hours.
Can I freeze it?
Because of the mayonnaise and the sour cream, it does nor freeze well. Good thing it makes just the right amount:)
Forget the trip to Outback Steakhouse. Grill and home and enjoy!
Because it is pretty versatile, you can add this blooming sauce to just about anything. Imagine spreading it on your favorite sandwich, or dipping your afternoon carrot and celery sticks in it.
