One of the very first recipes I’ve shared on my blog (dating all the way back to 2019) is the Taro Bubble Tea Milkshake, which is similar to the one I am sharing with you today.

Although that is still a recipe that I hold dear to my heart, this milk tea version is a much easier version and one that I make incredibly often during the day as it is quick to make, yet has all the flavors of the milkshake, minus the blended ice and tapioca pearls.
This easy taro milk tea recipe can be assembled in one single cup and has a delightfully simple process that only takes a few minutes from start to finish.
Not to mention, the flavors of this milk tea are absolutely heaven-sent and taste just as good if not better than store-bought.

It is also incredibly budget-friendly, as the entire package of taro powder will cost you less than $5, to make countless batches of taro milk tea in the comfort of your home.
Let’s be honest, we can all use a break from those hefty bills from the boba shop especially at this time, and this easy recipe will save you energy and money while pampering you with the heavenly flavors of taro milk tea.
What do I need to make Taro Milk Tea?
This drink not only calls for a simple method but ingredients that are easily found in your kitchen, making it easily accessible at any time of the day. Here is a list of ingredients you will need:
- Taro powder: as pictured above. These powders can be easily found at your local Asian grocery store, often at the tea/coffee section in various flavors including Taro.
- Here is an online link to a product that’s similar. Every type of powder varies in taste and sweetness, so please be mindful of this if you are using a different brand in mine, and adjust the taste to your liking!
- Green tea: both regular or jasmine green tea will work. One tea bag will be needed for each serving cup, to be steeped for 4-5 minutes (or longer, if preferred) to make a small batch of strongly brewed tea as the base of the milk tea.
- Sweetened condensed milk: or honey. I personally find that condensed milk adds amazing flavors to this drink, but if you have any dietary restrictions, you can substitute this with any sweetener of choice.
- Your choice of milk to serve: regular milk, or any kind of plant-based alternatives including almond milk and oat milk, will all work wonderfully with this recipe.
And that’s it! All the ingredients you need to make a dreamy cup of taro milk tea.
Please keep in mind that this drink can be served both hot or cold. For regular milk tea, I suggest adding a 1/2 cup of ice, and for a warm alternative, you can either microwave the drink or heat it up on the stove to bring it to your desired temperature.

Absolutely! I often make a bigger batch of milk tea in a pitcher and store it in the fridge for easy serving throughout the week. It makes for an amazing alternative from your usual tea/coffee, and its easy preparation makes it all that delightful.
From the day of the assembly, it will last about 3-4 days when stored properly in an airtight bottle. This version of milk tea does not have any tapioca pearls, which makes it all that easy to store. Best of all, it’s a lovely drink to serve to your guests to enjoy together on a cozy afternoon. 🙂
