These detox water drinks with lemon are infused with fruit like cucumber and strawberry for delicious hydration.
First things first… I’m calling this recipe “detox water” because that is what my readers are requesting, but I want to be clear that I don’t ever make health claims. You can read my full disclaimer here. My Apple Cider Vinegar Drink recipe has been so popular this year that I wanted to share a similar idea for those of you who may not love ACV: Detox water!
Other “detox” recipes you might be interested in are this Beet Detox Juice, Detox Tea and this Detox Smoothie. And don’t miss our full list of the 10 Best Homemade Detox Drinks here. Whether you’ve been indulging a bit too much and need a reset, or just want some ideas for refreshing beverages, detox water to the rescue. I’m sharing this in hopes of helping us all to drink more water this summer, while turning down sugary drinks.
The base for this “detox” water is lemon water. Lemon has several health benefits, and though I’m not a nutritionist, I find that drinking lemon water helps me de-bloat, especially if I’ve indulged in a bit more wine or salty foods thank I should have. Keeping fruit-infused lemon water in the fridge also helps my family and I drink more water, and most of us could use it. Let’s take a look at some favorite infused lemon water combinations.
What is Detox Water?
There are many “detox” teas, supplements, and beverages on the market. Many people who use them are looking to quickly lose a few pounds. While they don’t melt fat away, many act as a diuretic. I like to avoid those and stick to natural ingredients like lemon water.
Detox Water for Weight Loss, Flat Belly, and Clear Skin
These are three of the top reasons people are looking into detox water. While detox water isn’t going to burn fat for you, it may help with a flatter belly and de-bloating. Lemon is a mild natural diuretic, and I personally find that when I’m good about hydration I feel lighter. One study found that lemon may help with weight loss or management. Water is also really important for skin health. According to UWHealth, “Drinking at least 8 glasses a day will help rid the body and skin of toxins. Everyone will not agree that water consumption will improve skin… but it certainly can’t hurt. Many people often report that by increasing their water intake, their skin has a more radiant glow. Those who suffer from acne have reported the same results.”
How Does the Body Detox?
We really don’t need to eat specific foods to eliminate toxins from the body. Our organs do that on their own! The six organs that play a huge role in detoxifying the body, according to familycuisine.net are:
Though our organs do the work of detoxifying, there are times we may wish to support those processes with natural foods.
- lemon, lime, grapefruit
- green apples
- fermented foods (kombucha, ACV)
- green tea
How to Make Detox Water
Start with a pitcher of pure water. There are varying ideas about which type of water is healthiest, from alkaline water to Hydrogen water, both of which sound interesting, but need further research.
Juice Fresh Lemons
Next, add fresh lemon juice. As we go through a lot of citrus, I love this press. It gets so much juice out. I like to use pesticide-free produce for this detox water recipe, as the whole point is to help the body get everyday toxins out.
Add Fruit Infusions
The combinations of fruit infused lemon water are endless, but I’ll share a few favorites to get you started.
- Strawberry & Mint is a favorite from our local farmers market.
- Cucumber, Watermelon is a refreshing summer water.
- Super Citrus is a classic.
I like to store my infused lemon water in quart-sized glass jars in the refrigerator. It takes several hours for the flavor of the fruit to infuse into the water. Try preparing them before bed and in the morning you’ll have a cold infused hydration drink to take with you.
