Kristin Cavallari’s life looks a lot different today than when fans first met her on MTV’s Laguna Beach. She’s still a reality TV star (now on her own show, Very Cavallari), but the 33-year-old is also a wife, a mother of three, an entrepreneur, and a healthy cookbook author.
Juggling family and multiple businesses with cameras rolling requires real-deal fuel, and Kristin knows it.
To maintain a healthy balance, Kristin follows the 80/20 rule. Eighty percent of the time, she eats gluten-free, avoids most dairy, and cooks at home. “We don’t do anything white, so we don’t do white flour, white sugar, or white salt,” Kristin tells Women’s Health.
She saves the other 20 percent for her fave Italian foods and restaurants. Her motto? Choose the right ingredients, but never deprive yourself.
Usually, Kristin sticks to a pretty consistent three-meals-a-day eating style. The only time she’s strayed: When she combined keto and intermittent fasting for two weeks to prep for a photoshoot (which is now her secret weapon before special events).
“If I really need to get in great shape before a photoshoot, I know I can do it,” she says. “But for everyday life, it’s impossible. It wouldn’t be fun.”
What do Kristin’s typical three daily meals look like, though? Here’s the breakdown.
Kristin wakes up at 5 a.m. to get a jump on the day before her kids wake up. First thing in the morning, she downs a vitamin C shot from Lypo-Spheric.
Next up: a power greens and collagen drink followed by some good ol’ java. “I do my lattes with homemade almond milk, which I make every few days,” she says.
Then, after Kristin works out, she sits down for a more formal breakfast, which often includes a smoothie, oatmeal, or eggs. “We have a chicken coop, so I really love scrambled eggs with our fresh eggs,” she says. Often, she pairs them will a little goat cheese, sautéed spinach, avocado, and hot sauce.
When lunchtime rolls around, “I like to do either a big salad of a ton of leafy greens and other vegetables with some leftover meat or salmon on there,” Kristin says.
And don’t forget the dressing! “I have to have a dressing; I’m a condiment kind of person,” Kristin tells Women’s Health. Her go-to: healthy homemade ranch.
For dinner, Kristin and fam usually enjoy a healthy version of their favorite comfort foods, like enchiladas with organic chicken and goat milk mozzarella.
“It’s about making healthier swaps,” she says. “I still feel like I eat everything.” (Yep, pasta—made with lentils or brown rice—and pizza, included!) In fact, Kristin’s next book, True Comfort (available in September), is filled with her family’s go-to healthy-but-comforting recipes.

That said, the day’s main meal always involves some sort of protein. “We definitely are a meat family,” Kristin tells Women’s Health. “I’ve never been vegan or vegetarian I don’t think I could be. We actually have a freezer full of meat with all kinds of wild game.”
There’s always a vegetable on the table, too, though. Kristin rotates among sides like broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, butternut squash, green beans, and spinach to keep dinner balanced.
When Kristin snacks, she usually grabs a Sakara Life Detox Super Bar. The blue-tinted bars are packed with spirulina, 10 grams of plant-based protein, and sweetened with dates.
That’s not all she keeps on-hand to fuel busy days, though. Kristin also stays stocked on almonds, hummus, Simple Mills Crackers, beef jerky, and apples and almond butter.
She also likes to make trail mix with walnuts, almonds, cashews, mini chocolate chips, dried cherries, and coconut shavings.
Kristin likes to end her day with something sweet—often a bite of dark chocolate from a Hu Kitchen bar. “There are no chemicals, no crazy ingredients; it’s all really natural,” she says. “Their chocolate is really good.”
Her Hu faves? The Cashew Butter + Raspberry Dark Chocolate or the Hazelnut Butter Dark Chocolate.
Though Kristin doesn’t drink much alcohol these days, she goes for a glass of pinot noir sparkling rose, or a tequila blanco with soda, lime, and jalapeño when she does. “I have such a fear of being hungover with kids and everything else that it really keeps me in check,” she says.
