Low Country Boil Recipe (For the Grill)
If you love the marriage of seafood, savory sausage, fresh summer corn and cajun flavors, you’ll love having this Southern recipe in your back pocket! We’ve adapted this low country boil to be made on the grill – but you could adapt this foil packet recipe to cook in the oven as well (just bake at 400 degrees for 30 – 40 minutes).
What is a low country boil?
Low country boil got its origins from St. Helena’s Island in South Carolina. It was originally called Frogmore Stew which was a fishing community near St. Helena’s Island. It took on the name due to the area being in low country.

A traditional low country boil is made by tossing all of the ingredients (except shrimp) in a big pot of water and boil until the potatoes are tender. Add in your shrimp and then boil an additional 2 – 3 minutes.
Drain and pour out onto a newspaper lined table. Such a fun party recipe!
Here is how you can make low country boil on the grill:
For this recipe, you’ll need 6 sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil cut to about 12 x 18-inches each.
Next, you’ll evenly distribute the potatoes, corn, shrimp and sausage onto each piece of aluminum foil. Drizzle each of those with about 1 tablespoon olive oil and about 2 tablespoons water.
Then sprinkle each packet with about a teaspoon of yummy Old Bay Seasoning and give them a good toss.
Seal those suckers up tightly and pop on a grill that’s been preheated to 400°F. Grill for 30 – 40 minutes, turning each packet once during grilling.

Carefully open up packets (I don’t want you getting burned from the steam). Serve with cocktail sauce if you want to add some zing! We LOVE it!
