Mari is participating in national lemonade stand day

No one should have to endure the pain, suffering, and heartbreak that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Unfortunately though we all have likely been affected by cancer at some point in our lives. While treatments and research are slowly improving each year, the fact of the matter is over 39% of men and over 37% of women have the probability of being diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every day, 700 children worldwide are diagnosed with childhood cancer. Sadly, childhood cancer research is often overlooked or forgotten, receiving only 4% of the annual budget from the National Cancer Institute. As Childhood Cancer Awareness Month approaches this September, we wanted to take time to highlight a nonprofit that is near and dear to our hearts: Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

About Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation

At just 4 years old, Alex held her first childhood cancer fundraiser in her front yard and raised over $2,000 for the cause. By the time of her death in 2004, Alex raised $1 million and inspired a legacy of hope and cures for childhood cancer. Her family continued her legacy in 2005 by creating Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation which has since raised over $150 million for childhood cancer and funded nearly 1,000 research projects to help save the lives of kids fighting cancer with no treatment options left.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s mission is to change the lives of children with cancer through funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families, and empowering everyone to help cure childhood cancer.

The Million Mile

There are a number of ways you can support Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, one of which is by participating in The Million Mile this September. From September 1st-30th, you can join in the largest childhood cancer awareness challenge by running, walking, or cycling during this virtual event.

To show your support, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is asking participants to log as many miles as possible during the month of September, with a goal to hit 1 million collective miles. Register here and help raise awareness and funds during this incredible challenge.
