After all, pumpkin pie isn’t the most flavorful dessert, but it’s steeped in tradition.

Anyway, this Pumpkin Pie Cake is perfect for those who aren’t particularly fond of pumpkin pie. Why? Because it tastes like cake! It retains the essence of pumpkin pie at the bottom, but the crunchy pecans and the sweetness of the cake distract your taste buds in the most delightful way. This recipe may seem a bit unfamiliar at first. I had always had it prepared for me, but I never attempted to make it myself until recently. I must admit, I was surprised when the center of the cake appeared quite jiggly as it baked. However, I can assure you that it sets up perfectly.

Don’t worry, though. This recipe is actually quite simple, and you’ll be amazed at how easy it is to make. Trust me, when you take it out of the oven, it will look like a beautiful masterpiece. Here are a few tips to ensure you make it correctly:

  • This recipe works best when made in a 9×13 inch pan. Avoid using a smaller or larger pan, as it may cause the cake to overflow or become too thin, resulting in a less flavorful outcome. We highly recommend sticking to a 9×13 inch pan.

  • Make sure to generously coat your pan with non-stick cooking spray. I suggest using either a butter-based spray or an olive oil spray.

  • When sprinkling the cake mix over the liquid, be gentle to prevent it from seeping down into the pumpkin pie. The two layers should remain separate. If the cake mix starts to mix with the pie, you may be a bit too rough. Just lightly sprinkle the cake mix on top.

  • The cake may look a bit odd initially. However, trust me, once you pour the butter on and allow it to bake in the oven, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the final result.

  • Ensure that you evenly distribute the butter, even if it’s a bit tricky due to the uneven areas of the cake. Once it bakes, the butter will naturally seep and spread, resulting in a moist texture.

  • Bake for 55 minutes and don’t worry if the center is still slightly jiggly when you remove it from the oven. Once refrigerated, it will firm up, just like baking a pumpkin pie.
