Look no further, my friend!
This is the ultimate fat-loss smoothie that will help you start the new year (and decade) the right way! You can drink it any time of the day you want:
- In the morning: as a powerful breakfast smoothie to kick start your day.
- In the afternoon: as an energy-boosting, mid-day pick me up.
- Any time of the day: as a meal replacement or whenever you want to treat yourself (in a healthy way!).
This “ultimate fat-loss smoothie” is the counterpart of one of my most popular recipes on the blog – the “ultimate muscle-building smoothie”.
Before I tell you all about my “ultimate fat-loss smoothie” recipe though, let me first tell you something critically important about “fat-loss foods”. (It might change the way you think about fitness from now on.)
The Problem With “Fat-Loss” Smoothies and Foods
One of the most common questions I get asked daily is:
“Which foods should I eat to burn fat?”
Despite all rumors and myths that circulate around the Internet, there is NO particular food that will cause you to lose fat by itself. (READ THAT AGAIN.)
Such miraculous foods simply don’t exist. All of the hype on the Net is false marketing.
No juices, no detox teas, no seaweed, nothing. None of that nonsense.
The ONLY thing that will determine whether you lose weight or not will be your overall calories (your overall caloric intake, that is). If you eat at a caloric deficit (i.e. less than you need per day), you will lose fat over time. Throw in resistance training, enough protein/day and sleep to the mix and you are good to go!
Simple as that.
However, what I mean by the term “fat-loss foods” or “the ultimate fat-loss smoothie” is completely different. I’m NOT saying this smoothie will magically strip off belly fat and make you shredded to the bone.
What I’m saying is this: there are certain foods that are generally better for losing weight (not because they are miraculous) but because they are low in calories and relatively filling.
For example, watermelons and cucumbers have almost ZERO calories, which means you can eat a ton of them, feel relative full but still have eaten only 100-200 calories in total. As a result, they could be great snacks if your goal is to lose weight. (Compare that with, say, chocolate, which can add up really quickly. Only 4-5 pieces of chocolate will have the same amount of calories, yet won’t make you as full.)
The bottom line is that you should stick to a caloric deficit (CONSISTENTLY) if you want to lose weight – this is the most important rule. You can achieve this following any diet – vegan, vegetarian, keto, military, paleo, etc.
To help the fat-loss process easier, your diet should be composed of mainly “healthy”, nutritious and wholesome foods that are high in protein, fiber, and micronutrients. This way, you won’t be as hungry or feel restricted.
But again, there are NO magical foods that can remove fat from your body.
Now, when it comes to the “ultimate fat-loss smoothie” recipe, the idea is the same.
The ingredients (and the quantities) are low in calories and relatively filling (because they are high in protein and fiber).
The whole smoothie comes at only around 350 calories but will give you plenty of protein and vital micronutrients, staving off hunger and keeping you full for hours.
With all that said, let’s now see the ingredients of the ultimate fat-loss smoothie.
The Ultimate Fat-Loss Smoothie: Ingredients
200-250 ml. of Liquid
The liquid you choose depends on your taste preferences but the biggest factor would be this: it has to be low in calories!
(We want to make it “fat-loss” after all, right!?)
For that reason, I recommend using either almond/cashew/coconut milk or plain water.
Almond milk (and its alternatives) is pretty low in calories but high in essential micronutrients. It’s loaded with calcium, riboflavin, vitamin E and D, which makes it a great nutritious drink.
Plus, it’s an awesome option for vegans and lactose-intolerant people.
Not to mention smoothies containing almond milk as a base drink taste absolutely nuts! (pun intended!)
1 scoop of Protein Powder
I’ve said this multiple times but protein is arguably the most important macronutrient that you should focus on first. It doesn’t matter whether you want to lose fat or gain muscle, you need to hit your protein intake every day.
So, in order to do that, supplementing with protein powder could make your world much easier. It’s NOT A MUST, but it’s quite convenient, especially for busy people.
As already said, protein keeps us full and combats hunger pangs, it makes sense to have loads of it in our “ultimate fat-loss smoothie” recipe.
Any flavor will do the job but my personal favourite is “cookies and cream”. The taste is out of this world!
100 grams of Skyr – “The Viking Superfood”
If you are into health and fitness, you should have heard of the Icelandic dairy product called “skyr”. It closely resembles yogurt – it has a similar taste but a thicker texture.
Skyr is famous worldwide with its high-protein content and a wide range of vitamins and minerals – phosphorus, calcium, riboflavin and vitamin B-12. As a result, people generally add it to up their protein intake or enjoy it as a healthy, guilt-free dessert or snack.
For that reason, adding 100 grams of skyr to our “ultimate fat-loss smoothie” would be a smart move – with a whopping 11-12 grams of protein!
Moreover, it makes the texture of the smoothie thicker and creamier – the way it has to be!
How can we make a smoothie without a type of berries (blueberries are definitely my favourite!)?
Mixed berries have become quite popular in the fitness world recently due to their many benefits. They are even considered “superfood” because they are rich in antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, and minerals.
On top of that, they are low in calories, which makes them the perfect guilt-free snack or topping for desserts.
1 handful of Dark Leafy Greens – Spinach/Kale
It goes without saying dark leafy greens are incredibly nutritious.

Seriously, they are one of the healthiest foods on the planet, containing tons of the “good stuff” -many phytonutrients, multiple vitamins – K, C, E, B and more.
Unfortunately, their taste doesn’t really match up to their health benefits, which is a problem for many.
However, stick with me! Adding 1 handful of spinach/kale to the ultimate fat-loss smoothie won’t make the smoothie taste like crap.
I’m 100% certain you won’t taste the dark leafy greens next to all other ingredients in the mix provided that you put only 1 handful, ha! I personally prefer spinach over kale but ultimately, it’s up to you.
Bananas are one of the most popular fruits on Earth and there are many reasons for that!
They contain many vital micronutrients. Bananas are high in fiber, fast-digesting carbs (giving you energy), potassium, and vitamin B6.
This makes it one of my favourite go-to fruits to snack on and throw into my smoothies.
Putting bananas into smoothies is a game-changer, seriously! It adds such a nice creamy texture and makes the taste insane!
Depending on the number of calories you can play with, you could throw a banana into the mix.
A Dash of Cinnamon (optional)
I know some people don’t like cinnamon, but I’m a fan of it. I enjoy its smell and flavor, so I usually add it to protein bowls, smoothies, and some desserts.
In addition, I recently took a deeper look into the health benefits of cinnamon and it looks like its properties are now proven by science.
Cinnamon has anti-inflammatory effects, contains large amounts of antioxidants and helps with reducing the risk of certain diseases (diabetes and heart disease).
Overall, these health benefits and its pleasant smell (at least to me) make it a great addition to smoothies and desserts.
Finally, adding some ice cubes could make the smoothie even more refreshing and filling. Plus, it will definitely increase its volume (its milliliters) without any calories!
