This easy peasy fruit salad recipe uses peach pie filling to make it tasty, sweet, and crowd pleasing. It can be made a day ahead and only uses a few ingredients.
I grew up with this fruit salad.
My mom has made it for as long as I can remember, and it’s a total and complete crowd pleaser, wherever it goes.
So much so that years ago, when I lived in Australia, I tried to re-create it. This recipe calls for peach pie filling, however, and you can’t buy pie filling in a can over there. I guess they’re healthy and what not.
Go figure.

But I used cornstarch and did a whole bunch of shenanigans to try and pull this off the more difficult way (easy recipe below) and it was nearly there, but not fully.

Let’s dive into how to make this scrumptious dessert. Or salad? Or both? This fruit salad is rich enough to eat alone as a salad and provides a refreshing fruity flavor to your taste buds.
It is also delicious over a light and airy angel food cake. It really is versatile and depends on your preference and menu.
You could even dish out a bowl of salad and top it with a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream or cool whip for that extra flair!
Can you make the fruit salad in advance?
My mom usually prepares the salad the night before she will serve it. It will keep overnight in an airtight container.
However, it can be mixed together the day you need it but will need several hours in the fridge to make sure it is nice and cold.

Note: The only ingredient you would want to add right before serving would be the bananas so that they don’t turn brown or get mushy.
Are there any add-ins that are good with this fruit salad?
This beautiful salad could lend itself to creativity and inspiration by adding other ingredients of your choice.
Seedless grapes, mango, kiwi, and even marshmallows would be scrumptious additions to the salad. You might also add pecans or walnuts as well. Take the basic recipe (which is wonderful in itself) and experiment by adding other ingredients that might add to the beauty and taste.
Let your taste buds be your guide.
- Drain the pineapple and oranges.
- In a large bowl, combine pineapple, oranges, strawberries, and peach pie filling.
- Stir until mixed thoroughly.
- Sprinkle dry jello over fruit mixture and stir again.
- Refrigerate overnight or several hours in airtight container.
- Slice and add bananas before serving.
On occasion when peach pie filling isn’t in stock, a good substitute would be mixed berry pie filling. Just be aware the color will change to a more purple-reddish look and the taste will be slightly different as well.
If you don’t like bananas, they can be left off and the salad is still amazing!
